Bill Franks is the Director of the Center for Data Science and Analytics within the School of Data Science and Analytics at Kennesaw State University. In this role, he helps companies and governmental agencies pair with faculty and student resources to further research in the area of analytics and data science. He serves on the advisory boards of ActiveGraf, DataPrime, DataSeers, Kavi Global, and Quaeris. He also served on the board of Aspirent before they were sold to NTT Data in 2023.
Bill has held a range of executive positions in the past, including several years as Chief Analytics Officer for both Teradata (NYSE: TDC) and The International Institute For Analytics (IIA). He continues to provide perspective on trends in the analytics, data science, AI, and big data space to help organizations understand how to further their analytics and data science efforts. He has also served on the advisory boards of multiple university and professional analytics programs. Bill is the author multiple books. In his first book Taming The Big Data Tidal Wave (John Wiley & Sons) he applies his decades of experience working with clients on large-scale analytics initiatives to outline what it takes to succeed in today’s world of big data and analytics. The book made Bookauthority's list of top analytics books of all time, Tom Peter’s list of 2014 “Must Read” books and also the Top 10 Most Influential Translated Technology Books list from CSDN in China. His second book The Analytics Revolution (John Wiley & Sons) lays out how to go from simply using analytics to find important insights in data (both big and small) and move into embedding, automating, and operationalizing those insights at scale to truly impact a business. Bill's third book is 97 Things About Ethics Everyone In Data Science Should Know (O'Reilly Media). In this book, contributors from top companies share experiences and lessons learned from collecting, managing, and analyzing data ethically. His latest book is Winning The Room (John Wiley & Sons), a practical and eye-opening exploration of how to present technical data and results to non-technical audiences in a live setting. The book is filled with specific tips and illustrations to help novice and expert presenters alike! Bill is an active speaker who has presented at dozens of events in recent years. His blog, Analytics Matters, addresses the transformation required to make analytics a core component of business decisions. He was also named a top 10 big data global influencer by a 2016 social media research survey, a top global artificial intelligence and big data influencer by a 2019 survey, a top 50 most popular North American AI influencer in a 2019 article, a top AI expert to follow in 2023, and was an inaugural inductee into the Analytics Hall of Fame in 2019. His focus has always been to help translate complex analytics into terms that business users can understand and to then help an organization implement the results effectively within their processes. His work has spanned clients in a variety of industries for companies ranging in size from Fortune 100 companies to small non-profit organizations.
