Winning The Room
Overview |
|
Delivering an effective data-driven presentation to a nontechnical live audience isn’t the same as discussing technical details with peers. Entirely different ways of organizing and presenting information are necessary to help an audience that doesn’t have your expertise to do the following:
Delivering a live presentation is very different from compiling a written document. You must be purposeful and diligent if you want to develop a presentation that conveys a compelling story while simultaneously avoiding myriad traps that undercut your credibility and limit your impact. This book is meant to be a handbook that you keep on your desk so that you can refer to it on an ongoing basis during presentation development. Just like athletes continue to practice basic skills throughout their careers, it is also necessary to constantly refresh yourself on how to create and deliver data-driven information effectively and to routinely practice the basics. The book contains nearly 120 specific tips with nearly 150 illustrations that are arranged in sections that flow from planning a presentation, to developing it, to delivering it. Each tip is short and to the point, often with accompanying illustrations, so that any tip can be read and absorbed in just a few minutes. Although some tips relate to similar underlying concepts, each will stand on its own, so you can read any tip in isolation and apply it. Because tips stand alone, there is also no need to read the book sequentially and, if desired, you can focus on sections where you feel you need the most help. By following these tips, you’ll get better at creating and delivering data-driven presentations that provide information in a manner enabling it to be received, understood, and embraced by your audience. This combination will help increase the level of data literacy within your organization while also increasing your influence. If your goal is to create and deliver effective data-driven presentations, this book is for you! Don't miss the foreword by well-known thought leader Kirk Borne and the afterword by Rasmus Wegener, Bain & Company's senior partner over their advanced analytics practice. |
