Daily Summary

The Ride

This ride was short, but it had the most climbing since South Dakota. So, it wasn’t a killer, but it was a bit harder than we expected given the shorter distance. That will warm us up for tomorrow, which is the 2nd most climbing of the whole tour!

It was a decent temperature. The ride started by going through downtown Albany and over the Hudson. This portion was slow due to lights and traffic.

After that, we went through portions of rural NY and into MA. A short and uneventful ride overall.

The Sights

I got a picture of an Albany sign in a park that was by the Hudson river. You can also see a picture of me next to the river. From there, we had to cross the bridge you see behind me. It took quite a few turns to get to the bike/pedestrian path due to construction, a closed section, and the fact that downtown Albany had a lot of roads to avoid. I got a picture of the river from the middle of the bridge.

After that, the next thing worth capturing was me entering Massachusetts. We are staying just a few miles over the border.

The Hotel And Meals

Today we are in an old school motel. The woman running it bought it last year and did some good renovations. You can see a picture of the room too. It is actually quite nice. Another example of why you shouldn’t investigate options in case a nice place like this exists where you are going. It is a nice break from the standard chain experience.

Tomorrow is a lot of miles with a lot of climbing. So, we needed our vitamins! Outside of the usual ride snacks and lunch, I had a snack of chips and trail mix midafternoon. I then ate a ton of chips and salsa watching the World Cup along with a big sports drink. Then, I got chili, three tacos, beans, rice, and salad for dinner. I had a double candy bar for dessert. I am also going to force down extra water tonight so that I am hydrated for the hot day with tons of climbing tomorrow.
