Daily Summary

The Ride

Today was our longest remaining ride at just under 95 miles. It was warm to hot all day and flat. No winds of substance. We did a good bit of trail riding and a good bit of road as well. 2 guys hopped in the van after lunch at mile 67 because they didn’t want to keep riding in the heat. But, overall, it was a good day for me. We went pretty fast on the roads, but got averaged down by the slower trail sections.

The Sights

Pretty similar to yesterday early on. You can see a picture of the early trail and also two of a lock that I was able to walk on top of.  Some of the canal is cutoff and stagnating now. Some was even fully dry. I captured a picture of a stagnant area.

I rode through Savannah, which of course made me think of home.  The day ended with some good roads with smooth shoulders and also some trails that were very thin. Lots of shade came with the thin trails. On one trail, a drained part of the canal exposed the old infrastructure of what I assume was a lock.

The Food

We found an Ecuadorian place for dinner. It was amazing. We got a range of appetizers to try. I had plantain crusted fried shrimp. It was gluten free and yummy. I got a traditional corn porridge for dessert. We all loved it.
