Daily Summary

The Ride

It was a rare day for the tour. The temperature was great, it was sunny, and the minor winds were usually in our favor. We made good time on the flat route and finished in under 6 hours of pedaling.

We had one early stretch and one mid-ride stretch of pretty sketchy road. Two roads with barely a shoulder and pretty solid traffic. A couple guys hopped in the van at the midpoint to avoid the 15 mile busy stretch there. I gave it a try with a plan to bail in a few miles if it was too dicey, but decided it was within reason. I just rode as fast as I could to be done!

We  finished by riding into downtown Niagara Falls. As expected, the last 7 – 8 miles were more urban with lights. For most of it, there were 2 lanes each way, however, so it was easy for cars to just move around us.

The Sights

I posted some pictures from the early trail. I also posted a picture of the lake and campground area where we had our first break. The only other things worth photographing were some of the super cheesy restaurants, hotels, and attractions on the way into town. Since I was on the busy road, I didn’t want to stop for the photos. 

My favorite riding in was a spaceship themed restaurant with a UFO shaped sign and dining room. On our drive to dinner, I was able to catch a shot out the window.

The Hotel

We’re at a Days Inn. It isn’t too great. One of the worst we’ve had. My window overlooks a 3 – 4 foot wide alleyway. The cover for the heat/AC unit fell off when I touched it. The one faucet in the bathroom leaked when I used it. But, it will do for 36 hours. I will have to find a range of things to do tomorrow so I don’t have to sit in here too much!
