All The Day In One Place

We rode about 10 miles to the ferry terminal in Milwaukee. We took a 2.5 hour ferry ride across Lake Michigan. Then, we started the ride from Muskegon to Grand Rapids. A couple guys took the day off to meet with family and one decided not to ride to get some more rest. So, only 3 of us set out in the morning.

You can see the view of Milwaukee as we left. Then, I got a screen shot of our GPS location as we crossed into Michigan and also the Eastern Time Zone in the middle of the lake. No “Welcome To Michigan” sign there! Then, a final picture of me in the rain on the path.

It was hot in Milwaukee. Then, the ferry was cold. Outside was cold and windy from the water. Inside they had the A/C cranked way too low. Once we got off the boat, it was warm, but rainy. One more person decided not to ride in the rain, so two of us took off with one of the guides.

We made it about 18 miles in the rain. Then, our planned trail was closed for a long stretch, there were thunderstorms in the area, and it was getting late because we didn’t start riding again until after 4:30 due to Ferry timing. There were road options, but we weren’t fully sure how they’d be to ride.

As a result, the guides pressed the two of us riding to hop in the van with the others and shuttle to the hotel. So, we didn’t finish the last 18 – 20 miles. You can tell looking at the map because it ends in the middle of nowhere instead of Grand Rapids. At least we’ll be well rested for our 87 mile ride tomorrow.
