Daily Summary

The Ride

We got started 3 hours late because some thunderstorms were going through and we waited them out. We still got rained on a bit, but it was warm and so no big deal. Luckily, it was a short, 52 mile day and so we only got in an hour later than typical. The first 30 miles were on the trail we ended on yesterday and then the rest was back on the roads.

Wind was not a huge factor today on the trail portion, but was enough to be annoying on the road portion. We all took it slow and steady to have a recovery day of sorts. On the trail, it was nice to be able to hear birds and other animal noises instead of just the wind blowing in my ears like the last few days.

The Sights

We saw some tree covered hills for the first time in days today. You can see a Gnome by the welcome sign for one of the small towns we passed through on the trail. The trail is used for cross country skiing in the winter.

At lunch, there was a neat bench carved out of a huge piece of a tree. It looked like the cuts were with a small chainsaw. It had a bunch of owls on the back. I also came upon a baby bunny that seemed not at all afraid of me being close.

Into Wisconsin!

The highlight of the day was right at the end when we passed into Wisconsin by crossing the Mississippi River. You can see a couple pictures. If you zoom in on the white towers in the last one, you can see the La Crosse welcome on the two further back towers.
