An Awesome, But Long, Day

We had a great ride today. The weather was awesome. The road had super smooth pavement the entire way. There was maybe one car every 15 – 20 minutes. With I-90 going between the two cities, there was no reason for anyone but the few locals to take our route.

I pedaled for 7 hours and 16 minutes. With breaks and lunch, it took 8 hours and 39 minutes. We started with 15 miles of mostly uphill, then went mostly down 40 miles, and then finished going mainly up for the last 55 miles. It wasn’t steep except in a few places, but did eat at me as the miles dragged on.

The Sights

The first picture is of some wild turkeys that were running around about a mile from the hotel. Then, there is the view from the first hilltop. 

The typical view of the day shows the small hills that were everywhere. Some grass covered and some more rocky. The next picture has some nice hills to zoom in on.

Next, is the Campbell County sign that I’ve included in honor of my with and in-laws! Click and zoom in to see it better.

There were some very neat clouds for a while. They reminded me of Mario World video games. I don’t think I’ve seen clouds like this for miles before.

I came across both an antelope and a very old service station that I don’t think was selling gas anymore but looked open for the convenience store. It was the only place for dozens of miles.

Last is one of my favorite two hills of the day. If you zoom in on the left, the little hill really looks like a pyramid.

The Hotel And Dinner

Last night we were in a local hotel and tonight we are in a LaQuinta. The key is that it has a hot tub, so a few of us hit that right after the ride. It felt great after 108 miles.

There was a Ruby Tuesday next door. We went there for simplicity and loved the unlimited salad bar that came with dinner. The group of us ate a ton of salad along with our dinners. I got a huge frozen custard for dessert at a place next door.
