Daily Summary

The Ride

Today was an awesome ride. The weather was perfect. Warm and sunny. No wind. Tons of shade. Almost the entire ride on a paved path. Slight downhill bias. We got in early.

It really was nice riding on a bike path for most of the 78 miles. It made the ride very relaxing. I rode by myself for almost all of it, so had plenty of time to just be with my thoughts.

The Sights

It was a lot of wooded paths with frequent water views again. A large part of it was alongside the NY Thruway. But, the path was far enough to the side that you didn’t see or hear the traffic most of the time. One thing I noticed that last 2 days is that many of the small towns in this part of NY are not doing well. More decrepit and poorly maintained houses than I saw anywhere else on the trip. It was a bummer to see that some of the houses that looked close to falling apart were still occupied.

I got a couple pictures of the typical views. I also got a picture of one of the water control points along the way. These aren’t locks but seem to serve more as dams. I’m not sure exactly how they work.

I rode by a little waterfall outside a town. There was also a spot where they built a new bridge and made the old bridge the dedicated bike path. I’m on the bike path one and you can see the other behind me.

The highway signs entering Schenectady on our way to Albany are from a spot where the path got right next to the road. I have always loved that name and so got a picture. The water view was from as we entered. There are red buoys all across the water in the distance if you zoom in. We suspected there was perhaps a dam we couldn’t see.

The last picture is me in my outfit. I look like the 1980’s with only one leg exposed. I needed to keep the rash on my left leg covered but it was really too hot for the knee warmers. So, I had no choice but to wear one on the left and just left the warmer off the right. The white socks are another fashion violation with the black shoes and compression sleeves.
